Jesus Family Tree

I’m taking a detour on Jesus family tree specifically in this Christmas blog. However, it still is really about His family tree. Matthew chapter one lists Jesus ancestry and with it, the good, bad and ugly heritage He had.  Could there ever be any love and acceptance with that kind of heritage? Read on….

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son

18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

Jesus will Save His People from Their Sins

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Immanuel means God with us

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”(which means “God with us”).

24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Love and Acceptance

Jesus birth brought salvation to all people. He chose to come from heaven in the form of a baby. Non-threatening, innocent and able to go through everything we do in life. Yet He was Immanuel, God with us. He chose a couple who had no material wealth. They were poor, yet they had what He was looking for; love, acceptance and faith.

I can relate to Mary

I can relate to Mary and the other 4 women in Jesus family tree. They were ostracized, judged, gossiped about, and had to make exceedingly difficult decisions. However, God used and worked through their life circumstances to bring us our Saviour Jesus. He allowed Jesus’ ancestry to be imperfect to say the least to show us that it doesn’t matter what our heritage is or what circumstances caused our conception. Thirty-six years ago today I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Because of my circumstances at the time, I made the most difficult decision in my life, I gave her up for adoption through a Christian adoption agency called Chosen Ones.

My Daughter and I Have Found Each Other

This past year, my daughter and I have found each other. I have been blessed by her mom and her husband and daughter (my granddaughter).  They have welcomed me with open arms, love and acceptance.  This year, instead of just thinking of her and wondering about her on her birthday, I get to wish her Happy Birthday.

The Message of Christmas

We don’t know really when Jesus was born but our world has picked a day to celebrate His birth. His love and acceptance of us just as we are, is the message of Christmas. May the message of Jesus draw you to faith in Him, Immanuel, God with us. He will never leave you nor forsake you dear one because he loves you and accepts you.
