Watch for the Signs. I listened recently to a message from Anne Graham Lotz about the times we are presently in right now. Her key words in her message,’Watch for the Signs’ was from the book of Matthew chapter twenty-four. Jesus disciples in Matthew 24, after leaving the temple, asked Him three questions:
Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
Note that Jesus answers the last question first. He tells his disciples to ‘Watch out that no one deceives you.’ He then gives them a list of what to watch for: individuals who come and claim to be the Messiah, who deceive many, hearing of wars and rumors of wars, nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. Jesus ends this portion with ‘All these are the beginning of birth pangs.’
Anyone who has had a child will understand this last phrase. It is easy to watch for the signs of a baby being born. Birth pangs start with a small amount of pain many minutes apart. The pain increases in intensity and time. Just when the mother thinks that she cannot bear any more, the precious baby is born. Jesus used this analogy to help us to understand our times and to watch what world events are occurring now. When reading or watching the news, it is easy to slot events into the list that Jesus gave his disciples and to view their frequency and intensity. In other words, watch for signs.
By doing this you are able to see for yourself what time in history we are in. Read the rest of Matthew 24. Jesus is coming dear one. Like Anne, I believe He is coming in our lifetime. If you do not know Him as your Saviour, seek Him. He loves you. Anne’s website will give you what you need to understand Jesus salvation for you. Finally, watch what 2016 will bring us in light of scripture laid out in Matthew 24. Watch for the signs.
