Searching my family tree is one of my hobbies. It can be downright addictive and at times frustrating when I come to a dead end. What intrigues me, however, besides the photos and stories, is the spiritual heritage that my family has. As the New Year of 2015 has just begun thereby adding more ‘history’ to my ancestry, I couldn’t help but reflect on my spiritual heritage.
“The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” Lamentations 3:22-24 (NASB)
God’s love is eternal. His love has always been. Because of His great love for us, God sent His Son Jesus who came as a baby, born of a virgin, to bring us salvation. We just finished celebrating Jesus’ birth at Christmas. Just like our history doesn’t stop, God’s love didn’t stop at Jesus birth. Because of God’s unfailing love for us, His plan to restore us to Himself (we needed restoration because of our inherant sin – read Genesis 1-3) was fulfilled in Jesus death and resurrection on the cross. We celebrate Easter for that reason.
So what is your spiritual heritage going to look like in 2015? You can put your hope and your faith in God in 2015. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
